Time for a change, maybe? Opinions?
« on: July 25, 2007, 04:51:24 AM »
I suppose most of you won't agree with me and perhaps I'm making myself a bit... unpopular with this, but still I have this thought I want to share  :-X

The thing is... sometimes I feel that Kelly's songs are a bit... regular. I mean, her voice and talent are unique, no doubt about that, but the instrumental aspect of the songs are all somewhat the same. In almost every song it just seems to back up Kelly's singing, and nothing more. Of course it is in a way logical as Kelly is a solo artist, but I think that her songs could be so much better if more effort was put in instrumental parts. In my opinion, it would add a whole lot to her music and allow her break free from her image as (according to some people) "another one of those poppy singers".

My suggestion would include collaborations with some or other bands (Apocalyptica would have my vote then  :smiley22:), letting a composer from another band write an instrumental arrangement for some of her songs (I'd say Tuomas Holopainen as some of you might have expected  :smiley24:), or perhaps even doing a couple of singles with a still undiscovered band (there appear to be lots of very good ones there, which can't seem to get a contract, simply because they 'wouldn't be popular enough').

What do you think of this? Do you think this might be a point, or is it probably just a matter of musical taste? I'd love to hear your opinions ;D

she doesnt need to join a band, just change the music hers plays.

I have said for a long time that this album would be a lot better with different music to some of the songs. Kelly could have the same songs just a little different music with a different beat/style for a few songs.

Seems like most are agreeing with u

I think Kelly is pretty satisfied with her actual band. My December was made with them, and Kelly loves My December, so I think she's not going to replace her band.
And in my opinion her band is awsome!
And I also have to disagree when u say her songs sound very similar. Maybe that happened on Breakaway, but it definitely didn't happened on My December. There are a lot of different sounds and new instruments. And when she sings the new songs live, I love how she adds the wind instruments.

I would have to agree with Gman here... I think her band is awesome and I don't think My December sounds the same every track but also agree with Kelly doing maybe a collaboration with another band that would be cool for like one or two songs but I think she should keep her band for her records...

She just needs to have a bit more of a variety of music for the songs on this album so many seem way to similiar to others

I think you guys are getting the wrong impression...see, this is why I think it was a fantastic idea on Kelly's part to push for My December so badly.

Most of the songs on Thankful sound the same (not exactly the same but you know what I mean)...same with Breakaway...do you really think Kelly wanted it that way?...

I agree that a lot of the songs were repititive in the past albums...but My December...the songs as completely different to me.  You can't get much more opposite from Irvine to Hole...seriously...

And I think that's why Kelly likes this record so much...she said herself, she gets bored singing the same kind of things all the time.  I think this album opened MANY doors for her...I'm sure we'll be seeing some changes soon...

oh, and I'm TOTALLY against the band collaboration idea...Kelly's a solo singer...she doesn't need to collaborate with a band or anyone else for that matter.  I doubt I would be too into it anyway.  Look at American Idol-- her voice outshines others' far too much in my opinion to collaborate with others-- she'd be overshadowing them.  Remember in the Idol Joy to the World performance AND the That's What Friends Are For song? She had a solo trill during both of them-- because she was better than the rest.

if we arent careful she will be collaborating with reba way to much and I think that would be a terrible mistake.

As far as thankful it was a first album, that was put out quick and a test of who was really a nobody at the time just some contest winner. I dont think as much was put in to that album and more time was spent on breakaway and a variety was there. MD has way to many songs with the same type of music and less variety. Also notice between being a new name and such similar music thankful was not a huge success by standards but what to expect from a new artist trying to establish her name

In my opinion, MD does have a variety. Lyrics wise and music wise. There are a few pop-y ones, but they don't connect..like they don't sound the same and lyrics are not alike.

I was reading...i think her comso girl interview eeeeeeearlier today...liiiike at 6am....and she said she wanted it to be for others who can relate to it, so they don't feel they're the only one's going through their situations. She definitely acheived that, and also in my eyes he acheived variet.

Everyone has opinions. Nothing is ever meant to be perfect and to please EVERY PERSON. Reason why many have their own taste in music, style and such.
