Kelly Will Go Back to Pop for Next Album

Kelly Clarkson gets the picture, finally. There was no bucking the system, and no going against Clive Davis. Sources tell me that she has agreed, through her wise new manager Narvel Blackstock, to make a pop album for release in 2008 with songs selected by Davis and his team.

Clarkson's acquiescence comes at the end of a long melodrama concerning her current, turgid album "My December," which features a lot of ragged self-penned songs by Clarkson about a relationship gone sour. Davis didn't like the album considering it was the follow up to Clarkson's multi-million selling "Breakaway." But he released it, and Clarkson responded by dissing him and then apologizing earlier this week.

In the meantime, "My December" is sort of free floating away now, and will probably sell a respectable 850,000 copies in the U.S. and maybe the same worldwide. Clarkson gets points for trying out her chops as a songwriter, but demerits for not following anyone's advice, trying to take on the record industry's most astute executive maybe of all time and acting like a 25-year-old.

Yesterday afternoon, Clive Davis received the Music Visionary Award at a luncheon for the Music for Youth initiative, and as pop music's reigning arch-duke of divas, was received with reverence, flattery, and, inevitably, rumor-mongering. Enter Kelly Clarkson, the former American Idol turned ingrate turned apologist.

Davis, the 75-year-old chairman and CEO of the BMG Label Group, fielded reporters' questions with characteristic aplomb, dismissing ever-so-wryly Clarkson's very public tantrum and disses as non-issues: "Kelly's been an ... important artist from the very beginning, so I'm delighted to take her back on track, and we'll be gettin' to work on her next album real soon." Onward and upward!

I dont have anything to say about this ... I thought she was h*ll bent on going country?!!?  It also means that Clive has won (if its true ofcourse) and this pop album could either be a good thing or Kelly gets slammed for giving in completely ... what do ya think?

Isn't she going for country?! And it's way too soon to have another album, My December is only a month old! I don't care if she's doing pop/rock/country/blues/dance/rap whatever, I'm gonna love it as long as she's happy with it! It's KELLY CLARKSON!
And Kelly apologized! What does he want now?!

^^ I know but this info is starting to look more truthful by the second ... remember back before MD was released Kelly said something like 'If it doesnt reach expectations with the fans then I will do what you want' << now if thats true then this could be true.  I really hope Clive hasnt won and will now have complete control over the next album!!!

Although 2008 is sooner then what we would have originally had to have waited ... I just hope this works out what ever the out come!

well, I don't believe this for 100% kelly said several times that the next album will be more country/blues/rock. Maybe Clive Davis will bring in more but I think Kelly still may have to say something about the new record...maybe she's not that free as she was with MD...

Or maybe KELLY has another plan. Like her 4th album will be REALLY commercial and her 5th will be something like My December which is what her true fans like. And the 6th will be like the 4th and the 7th will be like the 5th and so on..... Both sides will be happy then! Kelly will be happy making music she loves, and Clive can make millions and die happily!

I disagree about the apology thing. I don't think she only apologized to Davis, I think she also apologized for her fans because all the news wasn't quite positve and gave a bad view of Kelly. So I think she just apologized in the contrary to set things right...

and about the records... Maybe that you're right about that but I still think that Kelly still may write some songs for her next record but if Clive doesn't like them all than there will come some other tracks on too....

Who knows; maybe she will write the whole record again The only thing that I know for 100% is that the new record is happier because kell wrote also happy songs. That's what she said in an interview

its not a win or loose situation....they have settled things down and are now working on the next album...clive will give kelly a few songs but he will guide her like on breakaway....she will eventually earn the right to write a full album again ....her album is only doing bad because of the fued and bad promotion...trust me if this would have never happened her album would have done fine...to tell u the truth i think clive did this on purpose like no promotion or naythign so the album would do bad to prove to kellysd he always right

Is this for real? 2008 is a bit too soon to be true. Even for a mindless formulated pop album.

i hope this does not happen yes a cd in 08 would be great but clive should not pick all the songs they should do it together and figure out where they want to go from here i think he shoud let her write her songs then maybe have them looked over by other songwrites but i like the new cd better than breakaway and like kc said no one wants breakaway 2 so

yeah i was hoping she would stick with some of the techniques she used on 'my december' or go more jazzy/blues.  like no ''kill me now' pop.  personally i couldn't stand 'breakaway' and 'since you been gone'.  but 'my december' was so different and eccentric.  like i loved 'chivas' and 'irvine' because i felt like she was right there singing.  i hope kelly does something, and does what she wants, and not what clive wants.  but in the end she'll come out on top.

I don't suppose there is anything true until it's from her mouth or press release. I like pop Kelly. I like Rock Kelly. I'm not fussed either way she turns. It's just because they see Kelly as a major franchise and she is going for the die hard market. Like a lot of indie bands. There music doesn't appeal to a lot of people. They are still sucessful... just not mainstream. Kelly has made her money now she doesn't need to carry on.
