When 9/11 happened I was sitting in my sons classroom for his first day of preschool. One of the other parents had went out to his car to smoke a cigarette and came running back into the room and said he had heard on the radio in his car about what happened so the teacher turned the tv on in the classroom and we all watched. The kids just looked at us for a second then got up from the circle and went and started playing with toys. They didnt know what we were doing but we all just stood there in awe and watched the whole thing happen.

I was on a roof in midtown manhattan ready to fix an air conditioer unit when it happened.. left manhatten, back to long island, got to my firehouse where I was a volunteer fireman (all of Long Island is volunteers), and went in to search through rubble and cover nyc while nyc firefighters stayed at ground zero

i was in 9th grade. when the planes struck the towers it was about 6 something in the morning. i had just gotten out of the shower, and was getting ready for school that day. and my parents had the tv on in the living room my brothers where sitting around it. my brother came up to me and told me what happened. and i was just in shock. i got to school and nearly no one knew what was going on, i'd go up to people and be like "do you know whats happening in new york?" and they had no idea. it wasn't till classes actually started, when teachers told their classes and turned on the tv's that people knew. our campus was somber that day. the next day we held a mass chapel in our gym (i went to a christian school) that was welcome to everyone. i've never seen that many people in a room crying. a few days later i went with my dad who's a firemen, to a memorial service for the confirmed 9-11 firefighters that had passed away. i'll never forget that day.

it was the 4th grade and i was still in PA at the time, i just remember being in school, and my teacher turning on the news after getting a phone call from someone. everyone was emotional since quite a few people's parents were either living/working in NY. the next day we had "a moment of silence" for those who had died.

I agree with it not being easy to watch, every documentary I watch gives me the chills. It is the feeling that this is beyond my control and that there is more to life then my favorite (insert hobby). I couldn't imagine the grief of those who lost love ones. I watched the film United 93 about a year ago and it was a very good film that shows the heros of the flight United 93. Very emotional ending. In all honesty I am not sure why I contiune  to watch stuff about 9/11, but I believe it is because it shows how strong America was and that is something that should not be forgotten.

i was in school (7th grade).  i heard some guys talking in the hallway about some kind of bombing or something, but didn't fully understand it.  when i got home, my mom turned on the tv and told me what was going on.  it was really sad and shocking.

i came off the bus from school, i remeber it being such a sunny day, and i got in and my mum said have u heard about the disaster in new york, and i saw the twin towers smoking. i had no clue what was going on thinking it was like some movie. the images and videos of the people jumping out of the windows is just horrific, i will never forget anything that happened on that day. i sometimes watch memorial vids on it and it still gives me the chills everytime. nobody will ever forget where they were on that fateful day 6 years ago...

I was at school and I was Ten and I came home and my dad just had it on the TV and it looked like something out of a horror movie.  I was really young too so never understood fully but I knew it was something really evil and now I just look at old footage and just cannot believe it.

He was an awesome guy. yeah I can agree with you kciya88 I remember hearing about it and everyone was leaving school and then seeing it on tv just looked like something out a movie, couldn't believe it was happening.

wow, Alan.  That's crazy.  :smiley8:

I remember it SO well.  And I STILL feel guilty to this day...

I was in 5th grade in my computer class.  I had headphones on because I was playing a math game on the computers and our teacher was like "TAKE YOUR HEADPHONES OFF!" and he turned the TV on and everybody just stared at the TV.  And I had no clue what was going on and honestly, I didn't really care.  So, I know that's harsh but for some reason I don't remember being really touched by it because I didn't really understand the impact.  At first, I thought it was just some building (I didn't realize how big it was until I heard that it was the WTC) and I didn't realize how many people died until later.  After computer class, we went back to our regular class and our teacher was bawling her eyes out and more than half the school went home.  When I got home it was all over the tv and everything.  And I really didn't understand the impact until a year or so later.
I only live about 45 minutes to an hour away from Shanksville, where Flight 93 crashed and when I heard about that, that's when it really hit me.  I felt SO guilty for not understanding what had happened right away, ya know?
Anyway, we went to Shanksville for the 5th year anniversary last year and it was so powerful.  My friend and I were at first just excited to be skipping school and to see all the local tv newspeople. lol.  But when we got down to the wall, it was HORRBILE.  I cried the entire day...literally, I cried from the time the ceremony started at 10am until 2pm when I got home and fell asleep.
I went back this year (last Tuesday) and it was still just as heartbreaking.  They released white doves and the governor spoke and such.  But the wall...geez, it's the worst thing ever.  I mean, not in a bad way...like, I like going to see it just because it's so powerful but it's like a punch in the stomach to see everything.  There was even a guy from London there!! Some people were holding a huge flag and they went around in a circle and said who they were and why they were there.  He said he was from London, England and he came just to pay respect to the passengers and to show his support.  I bawled.   :-\
Here in PA, you have to do a senior project to graduate and that's what I'm doing for mine.  I plan on going back to Shanksville every year until I die...it's...I can't even explain it.
Since I wrote a book, (lol) I'll have to post some of the pictures on here when I have more time.

Love the topic idea, btw.
